My Skincare Routine

The story continues with my skincare routine! Although the first step I took in transitioning my products was actually my shampoo & conditioner, it's not really an interesting story. The next thing I did was start the hunt for replacement skincare. Since this was over two years ago & I was in my early twenties, I knew it would be important to switch into a comfortable routine. In todays post I'm going to talk a little bit about my skin & then discuss my current routine & products.

I have never had "bad" skin. My family has passed down some good skin genes! Right about now you probably hate me depending on your skin experience so I'm sorry. No ones skin is perfect though, so this is my story. When I was younger I didn't wear sunblock, I only needed zit cream occasionally, and I took my makeup off with wipes. I learned about skincare from magazines & youtube videos when I was 18. My first toner was actually a bright blue drugstore astringent that stung my face. I started wearing daily sunscreen moisturizers and exfoliating twice a week. I have definitely learned a lot since then & my skincare has become my favorite part about my day.

Now that the history has been established I can tell you the problems that I do deal with. I have normal to dry skin that tends to be a little sensitive. Unfortunately the only oil on my face stays on my eyelids so eyeshadow is impossible! Around the time that I was switching I had problems with dry patches. My skin has occasional misbehavior but for the most part it's loving the organic lifestyle. Lets get into my full routine!

(From Left to Right: Thayer's Witch Hazel Rose toner, Badger SPF 30 sunscreen, & Badger Damascus Rose Beauty Balm)

Since my skin is dry I don't wash my face in the AM. I just use Thayer's Witch Hazel Rose toner to prep my skin for my SPF. I like to use the beauty balm under my eyes for extra moisture in that delicate area. Simple & no fuss or just pure laziness, but it works for me.

 Night Routine

(From Left to Right: Coconut Merchant coconut oil, Acure Facial Cleaning Creme, Radha Argan oil, DIY face serum, DIY eye serum, & DIY eyebrow serum)

The night routine is a little more work! Removing makeup with coconut oil beats those wipes I used any day. I slather it on & use a warm wash cloth to remove. I like to wash my face with a cream cleanser so I don't strip my skin. After I pat my skin dry I use Thayer's Witch Hazel Rose toner. Depending on the season or my mood I will moisturize with my Argan oil, or my DIY face serum. I also like to use my DIY eye serum, & my DIY eyebrow serum.  I also recommend Rosehip oil for dry skin because it is amazing!

Spa Routine

(From Left to Right: Acure Brightening Facial Scrub, Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Facial Mask with frankincense & myrrh, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, & Raw Honey)

I use the facial scrub twice a week to exfoliate. I only have two masks because I was never really into them. I only bought the Indian Healing Clay for a recipe but it turns out that it's too harsh for me. I've adjusted how to use it & will be switching to a different detox mask after I'm done with it. I put it on once a week for 5 minutes after a shower to unclog pores. Then I use my Shea Moisture mask, or a raw honey mask once a week. I have since gained a curiosity about masks & will be purchasing a couple new ones in the near future.

So there you have it! My current routine is simple but I'm very excited about my future skincare wish list! I'm looking to buy some new products so if you have a favorite toner, cleanser, or mask let me know so I can add it to my list. Stay tuned for more nerdy posts like always.
