Hair Care

Today I'm going to share my hair care routine! Switching to organic hair products was really beneficial for me since I used to use heat everyday, & dye it at the salon. It was dry, dull, & brittle until I found a proper routine.
My hair is straight, & fine. Currently I don't use heat, dye it, or ever wear it down. Around the time of my organic switch I decided I wanted to grow my hair out. I started watching hair care videos, & reading blogs about growing long healthy hair. I didn't want to just switch to an organic shampoo & call it a day. I wanted to change the health of my hair! I watched a lot, & I read a lot, but there is one person I do recommend checking out. Sarah from holistichabits on Youtube inspired me the most about healthy organic living! I tried everything she suggested & love how my hair is now. Link to her channel below!

Left to Right: Shea Moisture Strengthen Grow & Restore Shampoo, Shea Moisture with shea butter Moisture Retention Shampoo, Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Conditioner, The Honest Company honest conditioner detangler in orange blossom

Originally I started out using Shea Moisture products which were great but I wanted something more. Since starting my journey I feel more comfortable going to a purist level of organic living. So I wanted to take a step further with my hair care. When I finish these products I will use Calia instead.

Left to Right: Calia Balancing Conditioner w/cedarwood & rosemary, Calia Balancing Shampoo w/cedarwood & rosemary

Calia is amazing! I love this brand so much. They are located in Canada & originally started out selling essential oils, which I recommend checking out. Now they have hair & skin care products  as well, made without synthetic chemicals. The Hydrating & Balancing formulas are fragrance free. I added Jasmine, Cedarwood, & Sandalwood essential oils into mine. I've tried the Purifying formula as well which is already scented & I love it.
I don't think I'll be trying a new shampoo or conditioner for a while.

Styling Products
Left to Right: Shea Moisture fruit fusion coconut water Weightless Styling Mousse, Calia Balancing Leave-In Conditioner w/ cedarwood & rosemary, Nubian Heritage honey & black seed Heat Protect Keratin Spray, & Acure dry shampoo

I love the scent of Shea Moistures' styling mousse! It's perfect for my hair because it isn't greasy & doesn't weigh it down which funny enough, is exactly what it claims it doesn't do! If you already have a wonderful toxic free shampoo you love, just try out Shea Moistures' styling products. They have different lines for different hair types with tons of products to test out.
Obsessed with the Calia Leave-In of course. But I also recommend The Honest Company detangler too, because it smells like oranges & does the trick!
Every year just for the Christmas festivities I will curl my hair, so I use the Nubian Heritage Heat Protect.
The Acure dry shampoo does come tinted for brunettes but unfortunately I don't have that. This is an affordable option & it does the job.

Hair Treatments
Left to right: The Innate Life Scalp Treatment for dry, The Innate Life Herbal Hair Mask, & The Innate Life Rose Hair Elixir

The Innate Life is an amazing brand! They just launched new products a couple months ago so check that out too. They use as many healing herbs & oils as they can in each product without any nasty chemicals. I ordered the Small Complete Hair Care bundle so that I could test them out. Because my hair is so fine it tends to get greasy & weighed down with oils & masks. Portion control is important when I use the scalp treatment & the elixir. I love all these products but will only repurchase the Rose Elixir so that I can test out new hair treatments. Once a week I will put on the scalp treatment & the hair mask, clip my hair in a bun & leave it in for a couple hours.

Hair Rinses
Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, Chamomile Tea
I usually do one or the other once a week. I put a little apple cider vinegar in a jar, fill it with water and pour over my hair after washing. The smell isn't noticeable after your hair dries so don't worry about that. I have notice that this rinse has made my hair shinier.
The chamomile tea is more for a spa night in so that you can steep two tea bags, let cool, & pour over your hair after washing.  It's great right before bed because the smell of the tea, and a warm shower always makes me sleepy.

Wooden Brush & Comb
Wide Tooth Thick Handle Comb, Retangular Brush with Regular pins

Big Oval Brush White Lacquered

In love with my TEK brushes! Since learning about these from Sarah at holistichabits, I will never go back to a regular brush or comb. I did notice that my hair was less greasy after using these because it distributes the oils from your scalp to the rest of your hair. TEK is an Italian company that values sustainability and craftsmanship. The handles are made with natural ash wood, and the pins are made from hornbeam wood, set in natural rubber. Wooden brushes are much more beneficial for your hair health! They are hypoallergenic, antistatic, massage the scalp, and improve blood circulation.  I originally bought the rectangular brush and wide tooth comb. The oval white lacquered one was recently a gift from my best friend because she knew I had been drooling over how chic it was!

So thats all for my hair care routine. I hope that you have found this helpful. If you have a favorite hair product or ritual that you would like to share I would love to know! Stay tuned for another nerdy post soon.
