Makeup Collection
I'm really excited for this makeup collection post because I've waited so long to make it! In the beginning of 2017 I decided to start this blog, as well as switching over my makeup. I have my full collection to share with you, swatches & all! I thought I would talk a little bit about my makeup history & then jump right into my current items.
Ta-DA! My old makeup collection...all packed with nasty chemicals. However I'm not here to bash the brands that I used. As you can see I had a ton of makeup. One late night in January I took it all out & went through it, hence the bad photo. I don't recommend the dramatic method that I used, but I needed that big push to get me started. I threw out the old items that I couldn't give away. My family, friends, and colleagues took the rest of it. I couldn't go through 6 bronzers before switching to an organic one! I kept the bare minimum amount to do a lazy everyday look until I bought organic replacements. If you just aren't the type to get rid of a lot all at once take a slower approach. Below are the items from that collection that had a low score from EWG that I kept. Inconveniently all lip products!
My new collection is a lot smaller & I have some great brands to share. I purchased affordable brands first because HaHa I'm in college! 2016 was also the year that I started practicing minimalism, so with that mindset I restrained myself from getting 6 bronzers. Now that I own less makeup, I think spending more money on key items isn't so bad. I found a happy medium between more $ on everyday items, and less $ on date night/occasion items. But find whatever works for you! I also have some brands on my wish list to try out in the future. Below is my current collection.
I'm going to talk about each brand in the order that I bought them just so it's an accurate timeline. Starting out I used my EWG & Think Dirty apps to find brand names & then I would check out their products & pricing. The longer you are a part of the organic community the easier the research gets. Swatch discloser: I'm sorry but they aren't very professional.
Rejuva Minerals
Rejuva Minerals eyeshadows, concealer, lipsticks and lip glosses
Eyeshadow Left to Right: White Diamond, Beach Bum, Tropical Sunset, Mocha Latte, Brazilian Brown, & Iris
Left to Right: 3 Lipsticks: Berry Bliss, Peach Bellini, Champagne on Ice,
2 Lip Glosses: Sheer Pomegranate, & Wild Plum.
Rejuva Minerals is affordable, gluten free, vegan friendly, and they have complete ingredient disclosure. I had Red Red Wine lipstick in my purse & didn't swatch it, but it's great for a holiday lip with Sheer Pomegranate overtop. Their concealer is very silky & it comes in an eco friendly container. Their eyeshadows have multiple uses as well. I use White Diamond as a highlighter, Tropical Sunset as a blush, & Mocha Latte as a bronzer.
W3ll People
W3ll People Left to Right: concealer in Fair, Universalist colorstick, Bio Brightener, Bio Bronzer, & Invisible powder in Universal Glow
Universalist colorstick Left to Right: #10 Nude Berry, #11 Nude Peach, #13 Pink Coral, Bio Brightener in Universal Glow, Bio Bronzer in Natural Tan
You can't switch to organic makeup & not hear about W3ll People. I really love this brand! It's affordable, cruelty free, plant based & made in small batches in the USA with no toxic chemicals or preservatives. They are also available in select Target stores. When I debated between RMS Living Luminizer & W3ll People Bio Brightener I chose the latter because of the price difference. Every dollar counts in college & I still got an amazing highlighter! The Universalist colorsticks are convenient for travel & I adore #10 Nude Berry in the winter because it's the perfect mauve pink. You can get your entire everyday makeup look from this company and be satisfied. I can't wait to try out the Expressionist Mascara.
RMS Beauty & Misc.
Left to Right: 100% Pure Green Tea Fiber Brow Builder in Soft Brown, Honest Beauty Brow Filler pencil in Dark Blonde, ZUZU Luxe Mascara in Expresso. Physicians Formula CC Cream in Light/Medium.
Center: RMS Eye Polish
RMS Eye Polish Left to Right: Seduce, Solar, & Magnetic
Physicians Formula is a good brand to start out with if you just want to work your way into natural makeup. They have an organic line that is rated low on EWG. I don't wear foundation anymore, but when I need more coverage this CC cream does the trick.
I only have the brow gel from 100% Pure but this brand is great. They are cruelty free, sustainable, no artificial colors or fragrances. Brow gel Tip: scrape off some gel from the brush onto the tube because you get too much! Other than that I'm happy with this product.
I tried Honest Beauty because I enjoy The Honest Company products as well.
RMS Beauty is another brand that you will definitely hear about in your research! I am obsessed with this brand. Even people that don't wear organic makeup love RMS. They are free of gluten, soy, GMO, nano & they don't test on animals. Some of their packaging is recyclable. Seduce & Magnetic are great for a smudgy everyday look. Solar can be a highlighter or a holiday eyeshadow look. I have to layer powder overtop & they still crease because I have oily hooded eyelids. I don't recommend buying them if you have that problem. I plan on trying out the Un-cover up & Lip2Cheek's in the future because they'll work better for me than the eye polishes.
Burt's Bees
Burt's Bees Lip products
Left to Right: 3 Lipsticks: Rudy Ripple, Tulip Tide, Juniper Water
Lip Crayon: Carolina Coast
Lip Gloss: Sunny Day
Lip Shine: Blush
Burt's Bees is another brand that you can start out with but only their lip products are rated low on EWG. They are affordable & I can get them locally. Their tinted lip balms are great for those of you that don't like wearing lipsticks. Their lip gloss/shines aren't sticky, & smell great.
I hope that you found this helpful in your search for products! What are some of your favorite items or brands? As always stay tuned for my next nerdy post.
